Job Description

Job purpose

  • Propose and develop procedures and business cases to improve plant performance and power output.
  • Advise on option, risks, costs vs benefits and impact of different system operation and or maintenance on the plant overall performance and generation.
  • Perform field evaluations, identify plant shortfalls and inefficiency and troubleshoot problems from an engineering point of view.
  • Ensure all process engineering activities are carried out in the Plant are executed according to SHAMS’s HSSEQ procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the process engineering activities from the Engineering department.

  • Job Holder works at Shams Solar Power Plant in a controlled potentially hazardous environment.
  • Job Holder should participate in a monthly cleanup of SHAMS SITE
  • Job holder should attend the HSE mandatory training as per HSE policy

Risks

  • The daily tasks performed represent limited risks of accidents (blow, fall…) which are controlled by means of procedures, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), safety devices and HSSE Team supervision.
  • Traffic/vehicles accidents.
  • Risks inherent to the job are primarily those related to working in an office environment with occasional trips within the plant.

Main Activities

General Activities

  • Interface with senior management to define project scope and present technical recommendations.
  • Plan and execute the process design for various power-related projects.
  • Lead a multi-discipline team for the development of conceptual design and estimates.
  • Create equipment specifications, evaluate vendor bid packages and participate in equipment purchase negotiations.
  • Understand the power plant process and help define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals, safety and reliability and improvement efforts.
  • Provide engineering expertise to optimize process systems and implement cost reduction opportunities.
  • Perform design checking and reviews.
  • Perform field evaluations and troubleshooting.
  • Provide guidance and relevant technical information to mechanical, electrical, structural, estimating and process control disciplines.

CSP Specific Activities

  • Develop the long-term performance and O&M assumptions for the CSP plant
  • Assess the real performance of the CSP plant by adopting state of the art methods as per the market standards.
  • Develop modes of operation and control philosophy of the CSP plant and develop innovative ideas to improve efficiency.
  • Develop Solar filed performance model
  • Optimize Solar filed extended parameters

Job Context

  • Shams solar power Plant is located in a desert environment close to Madinat Zayed City.
  • Job Holder works for the Plant Management team under the supervision of the Engineering Manager.
  • Job Holder works during dayshift hours.
  • Job holder supports reliable and accessible 24 hour call out functionality on an as needed basis.
  • Job Holder works mainly indoor in air-conditioned location.

Skills & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng) is an asset

Experience and Competency

  • 6-8 years of experience in the power generation industry, especially Thermo-solar.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and optimizing CSP power plants.

Skills

  • Proficient in Matlab/Simulink, and exposure to one of the following 1D-3D simulation tools (e.g. GT, STARCCM+, ANSYS Fluent, etc)
  • Proficient in Process Simulation Packages such as Aspen Hysys, Aspen Plus, Thermoflex, PRO II, …
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Exceptional communication skills and able to work in a dynamic, fast paced, diverse environment.
