General Manager
As the General Manager of Shams Power Company, Majed brings over fifteen years of project management, engineering, and health, safety and environment (HSE) experience in petrochemical and solar power plants to the UAE’s first concentrated solar power (CSP) plant.
In his role, Majed leads and develops the company’s strategic planning, ensuring that Shams 1 delivers on its goal to grow in line with shareholder expectations and enhance corporate performance.
Majed has a proven track record in leading multinational managers, engineers, supervisors, operators, and technicians, with a strong background in improving HSE culture.
Majed joined Shams Power Company in May 2018. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Valparaiso University, USA.
Plant Manager
Ali Al Messabi joined Shams Power Company in 2017, having previously worked with various government entities and companies, such as the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and the Al Ain Distribution Company.
Ali became a new Plant Manager of Shams Power Company in June 2021. In his role, he handles a number of responsibilities including contributing to the realization of project goals, processes improvement and implementing best practices (technical as well as managerial). He also manages a diverse team of engineering professionals.
Ali has a broad academic background, holding a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Tokyo Institute in Japan. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UAE University. With a vested passion for learning, Ali joined Masdar Institute as an Engineer Researcher, focusing on Solar Energy and Sustainability.
Finance Manager
Adnan Qaisar is the Finance Manager at Shams Power Company. In his role, as part of the senior leadership, he manages finance activities, dealing mainly with compliance with financing agreements, forecasts, financial reporting and treasury as well as overall governance and stakeholder management (lenders, shareholders, off-taker and insurers). In addition to finance, Adnan also manages the procurement and IT functions of the project.
With over 10 years of experience across the power and water sectors, Adnan has extensive experience working with multinational companies including AES Power, ACWA Power, Engie and Total Solar. His areas of expertise are portfolio management, financing & project agreements, setting up and managing finance functions for WPPS, commercial deal negotiations, financial reporting, corporate governance and financial modelling.
Early in his career, Adnan was associated with PwC, and has led several auditing and advisory engagements.
Adnan is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP). He holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Karachi.
HR and Communications Manager
Muneera Al Hammadi is the manager of the Human Resources department at Shams Power Company. In her role, Muneera provides leadership in support of Sham’s values and mission, and enhances the role of the company’s most valuable asset, its employees.
Under Muneera’s guidance, the Human Resources department acts as a catalyst to enable all employees to contribute at optimum levels towards the company’s success.
Muneera has more than 10 years of experience in Human Resources. Prior to joining Shams Power Company, she worked in the Retail sector as Head of Human Capital and General Services for four years. Before that, she held different positions in Human Resources across many sectors including, Education and Surveying Services.
Muneera holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Abu Dhabi University.
Maintenance Manager
Willem started his career in the coal firing power industries in South Africa, where he worked for 18 years as a senior commissioning engineer. He relocated to the UAE in 2001 to form part of the EPC team that erected and commissioned Al Taweelah A1, a power and desalination plant. After the completion of the project, he stayed on for one year as warranty engineer before changing to the maintenance side of the Power industry.
Before joining Shams Power Company, Willem was head of the mechanical maintenance department at Al Taweelah A1 for 15 years. As Maintenance Manager at Shams Power Plant, Willem is responsible for ensuring the safety of employees and the plant during day-to-day maintenance activities. He is also responsible for improving existing maintenance procedures and implementing new efficient and cost-effective maintenance strategies to ensure the availability, reliability and maintainability of the power plant, while the development and structuring of an efficient and capable maintenance team is also considered a high priority.
Willem is a Qualified Tool and Die Maker with a Mechanical Engineering Diploma and an ILM Certificate in First Line Management.
Operations Manager
As Deputy Operations Manager, Akeel is responsible for the overall management of the operations of Shams Power Station, in accordance with Standard Power Plant Operating Practices to produce reliable and economic electricity in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. He is also responsible for keeping operational procedures and guidelines up to date and implementing safe working procedures, including Permit To Work and Lockout – Tagout.
Akeel started his career in Pakistan, where he worked for two different types of nuclear plants (heavy water reactor and pressurized water reactor) and actively participated in the commissioning of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant II. He then moved to the Muridke Power Station, where he was responsible for commissioning and operations as Control Room Supervisor.
One of the early joiners at Shams, Akeel joined the company in 2012 and participated in the commissioning and start-up of the plant. Since then, has worked in a number of positions within the Operations Department and was the first and only Shams O&M team member allowed to operate the plant on behalf of the commissioning team.
Akeel holds a Bachelor of Technology (Electrical) degree from the Preston Institute of Management Sciences & Technology Karachi, Pakistan.
HSSQ Manager
Ameur Soufi is responsible to manage the HSE issues related to operations of Shams Power station by developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures.
Ameur has more than 17 years’ experience in HSE where he held several positions from HSE Engineer to HSE Manager. He worked previously with several international companies both in Algeria, Iraq and UAE in cement plants, oil & gas projects and power plants. Mr. Ameur has joint Shams Power Company in 2021.
Ameur holds a Bachelor science degree in Health, Safety and Environment from Batna University, Algeria.
Engineering Manager
As Engineering Manager, Salim Sofian Khelifa is responsible to manage the laboratory integrity DCS and process and performance teams. By follow up the performance of the plant and help the team develop and implement the right solution to increase the efficiency, performance, and integrity of the plant
Salim has more than 15 years’ experience in in power industry including combined cycle CSP and water treatment, with a lean management background.
He previously worked in Algeria with both international and public companies, as project manager, in EPC team, and as operation manager in a solar integrated combined cycle power plant. Mr. Salim has joint Shams Power Company in 2021.
Salim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from USTHB University, Algeria.
